NEW TV SERIES PREMIERES:
GeekTonic Picks for Shows Premiering This Week:
  • Prison Break
  • Raising the Bar (new one that looks promising)
  • The Shield (if you’re a fan of this show then you have to watch this final season)
  • Bones
  • Sons of Anarchy (longshot, but it’s new so we’ll see)

NOTE: Times are EST
MONDAY 9/1/2008
Prison Break (8pm on Fox -Avail. in HD) Season 4 of Prison Break which is pretty much a quality serial thriller worth watching.  This premiere episode is two hours of labor day fun.
Gossip Girl (8pm on CW-Avail. in HD) Season 2 of the Gossip Girl begins in all of its melodrama and shallowness
One Tree Hill (9pm on CW-Avail. in HD) Season 6 starts off with the Tree Hill residents forced to make a decision that will change their lives forever.  Yep if you’ve watched the past 5 seasons, I’m guessing you’ll want to know what that decision is.
Raising the Bar (10pm on TNT-Avail. in HD) A new TNT show staring a long-haired Mark-Paul Gosselaar.  Former law school classmates reunite in court when they take on rival clients.  I’m going out on a limb here and betting this will be a decent show

TUESDAY 9/2/2008
90210 (8pm on CW -Avail. in HD)  Its the first season of the “new” 90210.  Much like the old one but not the old one.  Two hours are allotted for you to compare this new spinoff to see if it’s for you.
The Shield (10pm on FX -Avail. in HD)  Time for the seventh and final season of everyone’s favorite on-the-edge cop drama.

WEDNESDAY 9/3/2008
America’s Next Top Model (8pm on CW)  Yep, we have a transgender finalist here who was found in a homeless shelter.  I’ve never been even the slightest interested in this unreality show and this little “tweak” by the producers does nothing to make it any more interesting… 9/3/2008
Bones (8pm on Fox-Avail. in HD) Season 4 starts with a two hour premiere.  This first episode begins in England, with the local British officials asking for help from Booth and Brennan with a high-profile murder investigation that involves a British heiress.
Ghost Hunters (9pm on SciFi) Season 5 of what SciFi calls a “docu-soap” starring plumbers by day - ghost hunters by night.
Top Design (10pm on Bravo) Season 2 starts with 13 interior designers tasked with creating the ideal loft. India Hicks has been added as the new host with Todd (the former host) remaining on the show as a mentor to the designers.
Sons of Anarchy (10pm on FX) A new show for FX.  This one is a dark drama set in a sheltered community watched over by a renegade motorcycle club intent on protecting the town from the newcomers that threaten it.  I’m not too sure about the premise of this one, but since I’m curious I’ll be setting it up to record just in case it’s good.
Destination Truth (10pm on SciFi) Josh Gates, international explorer checks out unexplained tales around the globe.  Not all that entertaining and really not worth my time.  I’m surprised it made it to season 2…

FRIDAY 9/5/2008
Dogtown (8pm on NGC) a reality series starring dogs.  This first one this season has pit bulls rescued from NFL quarterback Michale Vick’s property.  Follow the journey of four of the most challenging Vick dogs as DogTown helps rehabilitate them.  Some might like the concept and at least its not about whiney reality show contestants right?
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader (8pm on Fox) It’s never made it on my list of reality shows to watch, but seems to be doing okay since it’s in season three.
Samurai Girl (8pm on ABC Family) A new 3-part miniseries based on the books by the same name.  The story is about a teenage girl trying to balance  normal life as the adopted daughter of wealthy parents with the Samurai traditions of her ancestors.  Looks like a family show for the teens, tweeners and possibly younger.

SATURDAY 9/6/2008
The Locator (8 p.m. on WE tv) Troy Dunn and his team reunite loved ones and reconnect lives.  Yeah I’m serious.
Cops (8pm on Fox) Season 21 – people still watch this show after 21 seasons?  Truly amazing to me
America’s Most Wanted (9pm on Fox) Season 22 – see my note on Cops.

SUNDAY 9/7/2008
Football Night in America (7pm on NBC-Avail. in HD) Season 3 of Sunday Night Football on NBC
True Blood (9pm on HBO-Avail. in HD) New series on HBO based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read.
Entourage (10pm on HBO-Avail. in HD) This episode is titled “Fantasy Island”.
Sandhogs (10pm on History-Avail. in HD) New Show on History Channel about the men who face the dangers of the New York City underground.

What will you be watching this week?  Any shows I should check out?
