    Writers Strike TV Show Updates

tvfuzzJust a reminder.  If you're wondering how many more episodes your TV show has left to air or wondering how the writers strike is affecting upcoming shows, be sure to check out this post: Writers Strike Update: Ultimate Guide To How the Strike Will Affect TV Shows.  I'm updating it daily with new information as well as keeping a good countdown of how many episodes remain for each show when possible.

How are you dealing with the writers strike?  I'm watching less and less television (except for football) and saving many of those shows for what I expect to be a dearth of decent TV programming to watch next year.  I've also stockpiled a good amount of movies to watch so if my life ever slows down enough to watch some shows or movies, I'll be ready.

College Football Bowl Geek - Bowl Schedule, Teams and Google Map Mashup

footballTime for the weekend again and for some of us, our attention turns to college football.  Are you a sports fan?  Possibly a football fan interested in college football?  If so, you'll undoubtedly be watching the next few weeks as the top college football teams fight over who gets to play in a college football bowl game and which bowl games your team/s get to play in.

UPDATE:  I'VE PUT THE CONFIRMED BOWL LOCATIONS AND TEAMS ON THE SCHEDULE BELOW AS WELL AS THE MAP MASHUP.

    THE BCS BOWLS:

The top five bowl games are the BCS bowl games play played the first week of January:

Rose Bowl - Big Ten conference champion vs. Pac 10 conference champion

Sugar Bowl - SEC conference champion vs. At Large Team

Fiesta Bowl - Big 12 conference champion vs. At Large Team

Orange Bowl - ACC conference champion vs. At Large Team

The BCS National Championship Game - pits the top 2 teams in the BCS rankings

Beyond the top two teams, the other eight teams come from a pool of league champions from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East, Big 12, Big Ten, Southeastern Conference and Pac-10, plus four at-large selections. The at-large teams must have nine wins and be ranked no lower than No. 14 in the final BCS standings.

No more than two teams from the same conference can make a BCS bowl, and if the No. 3 BCS team is a member of an automatic qualifying conference but didn’t win its conference, it must be chosen for a BCS bowl.

If the No. 1 team in the BCS title game is the champion of its conference, then that conference’s BCS bowl partner chooses first from the at-large pool, followed by the BCS bowl associated with the conference of the No. 2 team in the title game. The selection order for the rest of the bowls goes Orange, Fiesta and Sugar.

    HOW DOES BCS FORMULA WORK?

The BCS formula has 3 rankings added together and averaged: the Harris Poll & USA Today coaches poll and the computer rankings.  The computer rankings (six separate rankings withthe best and worst of those computer rankings being dropped from the calculation) do not consider the margin of victory and in most cases where the games are played.

    AllofMP3 for Movies: ZML

    zml2

You may have heard of the extremely popular, but thorn-in-the-side for the music industry - AllofMP3.com?  Well after selling non-DRM'd mp3's to the masses for dirt cheap (they didn't pay royalties for the music so were pretty much illegal) and eventually getting shut down the Russians are back at it again, this time selling movies online for $1.99.

After AllofMP3 site was finally shut down it was re-branded & re-launched as MP3Fiesta and continues to sell music online today.  And now MP3Fiesta has launched a new movie download service they are calling ZML that will most definitely be on Hollywood's hit list.

If you read their terms of service, you'll see that they built in a sneaky little terms of service that tries to say they are following the Russian Organization for multimedia and Digital Systems (ROMS) rules (although ROMS won't recognize the organization if this goes like it did with AllofMP3).  The TOS also say this:

"You can't buy movies on the site if it violates the laws of your country."

Yes this statement is pretty silly and no it doesn't mean you can legally purchase movies from ZML.com, but they'll sell a ton of movies here until they get shut down anyway.

The site sells thousands of hit movies and the downloads are compatible with all the major devices including iPod's Zunes and DivX players.  Here's a screen-shot of the site:

    zml

While I think this would be the perfect model (DRM-free and usable in all devices) for other Movie Download sites, I should probably mention that I don't think downloading movies from this site is a good idea.  It looks like it's illegal and unethical as well.
