Amazon Kindle eBook Reader for Android Released

Kindle for Android

Amazon continues to lead the eBook market in terms of getting their reader as well as their eBook store on as many devices as possible.  Today they released the new Kindle app for Android devices.  The Android Kindle app is similar to the iPhone app that lets you search, browse, purchase, download and of course read eBooks from your Android (1.6 or higher) device.

Features of the Android Kindle App:

  • Get the best reading experience available on your Android phone. No Kindle required
  • Access your Kindle books even if you don't have your Kindle with you
  • Automatically synchronizes your last page read and annotations between devices with “Whispersync”
  • Adjust the text size, add bookmarks, and view the annotations you created on your Kindle, computer, or other Kindle-compatible device
  • Read in portrait or landscape mode
  • Tap on either side of the screen or flick to turn pages
  • That puts Kindle on the Kindle eReaders, the iPod Touch, iPhone, Android mobile, iPad, Windows PC, Mac

Kindle still leads the pack of eBook readers and eBook stores in most categories and this will help them keep the edge.
