Thanksgiving Week - What to Watch

It's that time of the year where families gather around for turkey, football and movies. I've gathered some Thanksgiving Movie and TV favorites for this week including Movies, TV and Sport. Enjoy!

TOP MOVIES WITH A THANKSGIVING THEME OR TAKE PLACE AROUND THANKSGIVING

1. Planes, Trains and Automobiles - A favorite of mine - even though I've seen it too many times. John Candy and Steve Martin make one of the funniest Thanksgiving movies of all time.

2. Charlie Brown Thanksgiving - Some consider the Peanuts Holiday Specials a holiday tradition [Note: you can rent this movie or watch it on ABC Tuesday, November 20th at 7PM Central]

3. Home for the Holidays - with Holly Hunter - a dysfunctional family Thanksgiving

4. Holiday Inn - A 1942 classic that my wife forces me to watch every year. Covers all of the Holidays of course.

5. Hannah and her Sisters - Woody Allen film from 1986. Hannah (Mia Farrow) has her clan gather in NYC for their holiday celebration.

5. Pieces of April - It's a bit non-traditional, but a good one.

6. Scent of a Woman - This one takes place over Thanksgiving break where Chris O'Donnel is hired to look after a blind, retired Lieutenant Colonel (Al Pacino), who takes him off for a wild weekend in New York City.

7. The Ice Storm - Takes place on the weekend after Thanksgiving in 1973 in Connecticut. Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Allen and Tobey Maguire star in this awkward film by Ang Lee. Not for everyone though.

8. The Daytrippers - A funny family road trip. When Eliza (Hope Davis) finds a love letter the day after Thanksgiving that she thinks is intended for her husband, she turns to her family for advice.

ON TELEVISION THANKSGIVING WEEK

1. Charlie Brown Thanksgiving - Some consider the Peanuts Holiday Specials a holiday tradition: Watch it on ABC Tuesday, November 20th at 7PM Central

2. Home for the Holidays: The History of Thanksgiving - Learn about the true beginnings of thanksgiving including the Pilgrims, Lincoln's declaration turkey etc. History Channel Wednesday November 21st at 12Noon Central [also 11/21 6pm, 11/21 10pm and 11/22 2am Central]

3. Thanksgiving Unwrapped - The unwrapped series does thanksgiving with fun facts on the holiday food traditions. Food Network on Thursday, November 22 at 1am Central

4. Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - A Thanksgiving Holiday Tradition. ABC on Thursday, November 22 at 9am Central

5. Thanksgiving Unstuffed - The National Geographic Channel debunks myths about Thanksgiving. NGC on Thursday, November 22 at 12Noon Central

6. NFL Football - Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions on Fox at 11:30am Central

7. Because of Winn-Dixie - A good non-thanksgiving movie airing on FX at 12:30pm Central Thanksgiving day.

8. NFL Football - NY Jets at Dallas Cowboys on CBS at 3pm Central.

9. Miracle on 34th Street - Classic Holiday Movie on NBC at 2pm Central Thanksgiving Day.

10. College Football - USC at Arizona State - A nice little warmup (on ESPN Thanksgiving night at 7pm Central )to the Big Twelve game on Saturday that everyone should watch with Missouri vs. Kansas.

AT THE THEATER

1. Beowulf - The story of Beowulf on the big screen. It was a big hit last week and will continue through the holidays.

2. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium - Family Film about the most wonderful toy store in the world.

3. Fred Clause - Fred is Nicholas's under-appreciated brother. PG comedy with Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti for the holidays.
